The day group of the Friendship Quilt Guild met on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Community Worship Center in Perryton. The String Quilt Challenge entries were revealed and voted on, and winners were announced. The wall-hanging category winner was Cynthia Shattles, with second place awarded to Barbara Hawkins. The home décor winner was Freddie Seamon, with Sheril Kelly receiving second place. The large quilt category winner was Alta Williams, with second place going to Luana Walker and third place to Lucy Webster.

Superintendent Pulliam explains voter tax rate election to Rotarians

Canadian ISD Superintendent Lynn Pulliam met with Rotarians last week and endeavored to explain the complicated way public schools receive funds from the state. The Thursday, Oct. 6, edition of The Canadian Record has an extensive article explaining school finance and Proposition A that local voters will be casting their ballots for or against on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

River Valley Pioneer Museum

Fall Foliage 2022 was a huge success in Canadian this past weekend. We had a great time visiting with the 350-plus people that came through the museum on Saturday and Sunday. Many of our visitors were here not only to tour the museum but to see our annual quilt show, which was on display in our Gallery Room.

What's Cookin' in Canadian: Potato Soup

INGREDIENTS 6 slices thin bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 whole medium onion, diced 3 whole carrots, scrubbed clean and diced 3 stalks celery, diced 6 whole small russet potatoes, peeled and diced 8 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 cup milk 1/2 cup heavy cream 1/2 teaspoon salt, more to taste Black pepper, to taste 1/2 teaspoon Cajun spice mix 1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley 1 cup grated cheese of your choice PREPARATION Add bacon pieces to a soup pot over medium heat and cook bacon until crisp and fat is rendered. Remove the bacon from the pot and set it aside. Pour off most of the grease, but do not clean the pot.
