Lady Cats softball defeats Booker in 19-0 shutout Thursday

Canadian’s Lady Cat softball team engineered a 19-0 shutout against Booker here at home on Thursday. The Lady Cats scored early and often in the game, putting up 3 points in the first inning, doubling that score in the second, running the bases for 8 more points in the third and 5 more in the fourth.

In five innings of play, the Lady Kiowas were scoreless. Junior Lady Cat pitcher Jessa Bell allowed only one hit and struck-out 11 batters.

Cavalier named 3A Offensive Player of the Year by Texas Sports Writers Association

BRYAN – Canadian quarterback Camren Cavalier and Brock linebacker Cooper Massey were named the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A players of the year.

Cavalier passed for 3,951 yards with 59 touchdowns only three interceptions to grab offensive player of the year. He added 1,494 yards rushing with 24 more touchdowns for the 14-1 Wildcats.

UIL releases biennial reclassification, realignment info

AUSTIN— The biennial University Interscholastic League reclassification and realignment for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years was released this morning, Thursday, Feb. 1, at 9 am. The new alignments, established by enrollment figures submitted to the UIL by its member schools in October, will serve as the football districts for the next two school years.

Frank Phillips College Rodeo brings over 680 contestants, coaches, families to Canadian

FPC Rodeo once again hosted the 2023 Southwest Region NIRA Frank Phillips College Rodeo October 12-14 in the cowboy town of Canadian. Over 680 contestants attended the three-day event, along with their coaches, families and cheering sections.

FPC was well-represented with four athletes qualifying for the Top 10 Championship Round.

Wildcat 8th-Graders defeat Bushland 52-14 on Sept. 21

Canadian’s 8th-Grade Wildcats played their best game of the season thus far on Thursday, Sept. 21, with a dominating 52-14 win over Bushland on the Bobcats’ home turf.

Chris Flores stacked up 199 total yards rushing and 32 yards receiving, scoring four TDs on the ground, and one in the air. Weston Mitchell threw four of 8 passes for 76 yards, resulting in two TDs and one interception. Mitchell was also a beast on the ground, grinding out 84 yards and taking one into the end zone.

Lady Cats place second, Wildcats fourth at Lubbock Cross-Country Invitational

Canadian’s Lady Cats cross-country team won second-place overall on Saturday at the prestigious Lubbock Invitational at Mae Simmons Park. They were outpaced only by Holliday’s No. 1 Lady Eagles.

Konnar McClendon crossed the finish line in 2nd place overall, followed by Lady Cats Elizabeth Guerrero, 10th, and Arionna Black, 13th, among the top-15 finishers. Maile Quisenberry, Payton Lee, Brooklyn Beedy and Landry Appel rounded out the team. 

“A great job all around,” said Coach Aaron Marks.

CMS 8th-Grade Wildcats start '23 football season on 3-0 roll

In their season debut here on Koetting Field, Canadian's 8th-grade Wildcats executed a daunting 52-18 win over the Rangers on Thursday, Sept. 7.

The Wildcat offense was led by Weston Mitchell and Chris Flores, who had 5 and 3 touchdowns, respectively. Mitchell completed 6 of 8 passes for 179 yards and 3 TDs, and carried for 87 more yards and 2 more TDs. Flores racked up 77 yards rushing and 75 yards receiving, finding the endzone three times.

Both the Wildcat Varsity and Junior High teams won the meet. Out of 20 runners competing, 18 ran their personal best, reported Coach Jay McCook, who concluded, “Outstanding day for the Wildcats.”
