Annual District 1 4-H Gold Star Banquet honors 30 area 4-Hers Thirty outstanding 4-H members from the Panhandle area were honored at the 65th Annual Gold Star Banquet hosted by District 1 of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Canyon’s West Texas A&M University Alumni Banquet Facility.

Canadian Middle- and High-Schoolers do good

Monday, Oct. 11, was Canadian ISD’s annual Community Give Back Day, a day in which middle and high school students dedicate themselves to community service. In addition to boosting a student’s chances of acquiring scholarships and college entry, community service is good for the soul. Taking a break from academics to give back to the community is an integral part of what CISD hopes to instill in its students.

SOMETIMES BAD NEWS is good news. That’s how I see the news this week that Micron did not choose Lockhart, Texas as the location of its new chip manufacturing plant. Micron chose Clay, New York, a suburb of Syracuse. Why is the loss of a prospective 9,000 Micron jobs and 40,000 ancillary jobs a good thing?

Canadian Education Foundation representatives Heath Mitchell, Cheryl Hohertz, and Courtney Trolinger presented over $6,300 in Innovative Teaching Grants to teachers from Canadian High School, Canadian Elementary, and Baker Elementary during halftime at last Friday night’s Wildcat football game here.

The 2022 Canadian High School Homecoming Court

CHS Senior Emily Kauk was crowned 2022 Homecoming Queen during halftime at Friday night’s Canadian Wildcat vs Perryton Rangers game. Members of this year’s CHS Homecoming Court and their escorts were Leah Moreno with father Lucio Moreno, Emily Kauk with father Brett Kauk, Clara Pulliam with father Lynn Pulliam, Kathy Aragon with father Luis Aragon, Alexa Escarcega with father Jose Escarcega, and Brianna Angillon with Osvaldo Dominguez. The game was preceded by a Homecoming Tailgate with a custom-smoked barbecue pulled pork meal, hosted by the Canadian Educaton Foundation. All proceeds from Friday’s gates went to the CEF to fund student scholarships and innovative teacher grants.

Canadian school students, alums, and fans celebrate homecoming week

This is homecoming week at Canadian ISD, and the school calendar has been filled with spirited events ranging from Adam Sandler Day to Anything but a Backpack Day. Beloved traditions like Wednesday night’s Lighting of the C at Wildcat Stadium and Friday afternoon’s pep rally at the Canadian High School gymnasium are all part of the countdown to the main event: Friday night’s big game, featuring the Perryton Rangers vs. the Canadian Wildcats.

CHS Class of ‘82 celebrates 40-year reunion

The Canadian High School, Class of 1982 celebrated its 40-year reunion during the weekend of Sept. 9. Activities began at 7 pm on Friday, Sept. 9, at the Stumblin’ Goat, where classmates, spouses, and family members had dinner and drinks (and our waitress was the bomb!). After the Goat, classmates and guests headed to the home of Jerry and Janis Ries for an evening of reminiscing and laughing, among other things.
