Music on the Chamber Lawn draws a happy crowd Thursday

Body
The Buster Bledsoe Band did a fine job of entertaining this group of music lovers on the Chamber lawn last Thursday evening, and the shade trees may even have taken their minds off of the gathering June heat. This was the first, and last, Music on the Chamber Lawn event of 2021, but tonight and the following Thursday, the same venue will host the Chamber’s free Screen on the Green. The film will start rolling around 9-ish pm when the evening light dims.No reservations required. The Canadian Community Center will be selling all the snacks you could possibly need for a lovely night at the movies.

Body
Hemphill County AgriLife Extension Agent Andy Holloway’s program began last week with a short video about 4-H, which offers many different opportunities and projects for youth, and for adult partnerships with these children. The adults lead the projects and guide the students. The 4-H program teaches leadership, compassion, support, work ethics, dedication, knowledge, and fun through community service, projects, camps, workshops, and stock shows.

Summer Vacation 2020 vs. 2021

Body
Over the past 16 months, we’ve seen daily routines and annual traditions adapt to the changing regulations, lockdowns, and mandates. Last summer, the COVID quarantine caused family vacations, personal trips, and summer camps to be canceled, postponed, or reimagined. However, this summer the horizon looks brighter. While there may still be some restrictions for outings, such as masks or social-distancing requests, normal is making a return in 2021.

The Postscript: The Homes of Dead People

Body
A cousin of mine reportedly said, “I can’t imagine living in a house where other people have lived!” I don’t know if she really said this, as I heard the story secondhand. But it stuck in my mind because every home I’ve owned has been lived in by other people, and a few people have died in them as well.

Rotary: Alex Moreno, the Art of Creating Music

Body
If he weren’t so far away at Rice University, Alex Moreno might just become a regular Rotarian. He has attended more meetings lately than some of our own members. (Looking at you, “maternity leave” Ward and Haleys, and “helping with the kids” Mann. Newborns these days, am I right?)

We have a few slots available for History Day Camp, so come register your child as soon as possible! I am really excited about this summer camp. Elizabeth and I wanted to do this camp two years in a row, but circumstances beyond our control kept us from carrying it out. So, finally, we are doing this!
