The Art Lady

Body
Ike Julian introduced Karol Ann Michelsen as the “The Art Lady About Town.” She is, in fact, the art teacher for the middle school and high school, the Canadian Community Center’s newest board member, and was the subject of a story in the June 10 edition of The Canadian Record.

What's Cookin' in Canadian: Judy’s Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Body
Wendie Cook served this delicious three-layer salad that includes pretzel crust, a cream cheese center, and strawberry top, after a light summer lunch. It was the perfect combination of sweet, creamy, and salty. She shared the recipe that she found on allrecipes.com. I would bet real money that nobody turns down seconds. Enjoy!

IF YOU EVER FEEL like taking a step back in time, and learning more about the history of this community, The Portal to Texas History has collected eleven decades of The Canadian Record in its newspaper archives, and while the collection is still incomplete, it is rich in information and offers an interesting perspective on how our lives have changed…and how they really haven’t, all that much. One word of warning…Do not do this if you have someplace to be or something to do in the next hour, or two, or ten. History is a time warp, and one in which the traveler can easily get lost. But if you want to beat the heat, and need an excuse to stay inside, this is an excellent one. We highly recommend. https://texashistory.unt.edu/explore/collections/TDNP/

What’s Cookin’ in Canadian: Shrimp with Parsley

Body
After a generous gift of freshly cut curly parsley, I looked in the freezer to determine how to best use it. Good parsley tastes like summer to me, green and fresh. This recipe could be used with chicken bits instead of shrimp. I foraged in the refrigerator and used what veggies I had on hand. You could use many others as well. Enjoy!
