FFA Wildlife and Range teams to advance to state competition

After Regional competition held at the Matador Wildlife Center north of Puducah, both the Canadian FFA Wildlife and Range teams will advance to state competition. The Wildlife team placed first in the region, with Karson Thompson placing second individually, and Cesicilly Beach placing third. The Range team placed second in the area with Kinley Long placing fifth, with her best score yet. Cescilly Beach placed sixth; Delaney Huntress placed seventh; and Jackson Poe placed eighth. Ag teacher Brandon Meier said, “These students' scores have improved a lot from the beginning of the year.

WT Students, Faculty to Take Part in Annual AMoA Exhibition

CANYON, Texas—Dozens of West Texas A&M University student artists will hang their works in an annual joint exhibition with Amarillo College opening April 7 at Amarillo Museum of Art.

The AC/WT Student/Faculty Exhibition will hang through April 23 at the museum, 2200 S. Van Buren St. in Amarillo.

CHS Varsity and JV tennis teams ace District competition, advance 12 to Regionals

The Canadian Wildcats and Lady Cats swept their competitors last week in the District 1-3A meet held at Amarillo’s Tascosa High School. The Varsity and Junior Varsity boys and girls teams simply dominated the overall team championships: Canadian’s Varsity players piled up 71 team points over Spearman’s 22 and Dalhart’s 12, while the Junior Varsity boys and girls collected a total of 71 points versus Spearman’s 20 and Dalhart’s 19.

Canadian Lady Cats grabs lead in fifth inning to defeat Dimmitt

Canadian Lady Cats stole the lead late in the game in an 8-4 home field victory over Dimmitt Varsity Bobbies on Saturday, March 25. The game was tied at four with Canadian Lady Cats batting in the bottom of the fifth when Miranda Nunez singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Leah Moreno led the Lady Cats to victory by driving in four runs. Moreno went 2-for-3 at the plate, and drove in runs on a homer in the third and a double in the fifth.

CHS blood drive collects 43 lifesaving donations Monday

Forty-three blood donations were collected during Canadian High School’s annual blood drive on Monday, Jan. 16—enough blood to help save 129 lives. When asked why she wanted to hold the blood drive on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Health Science teacher Rosemary Koetting said, “Because what better way to give back and serve than by donating blood?”

High school seniors: Apply now for Top O’ Texas Cattlewomen scholarships The Top O’ Texas Cattlewomen is reminding all high school seniors attending schools in Carson, Collingsworth, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Ochiltree, Roberts, and Wheeler counties that applications for this year’s Top O’ Texas Cattlewomen’s scholarships should be available in high school counselor’s offices now. This year, the organization is awarding four $750 scholarships.
