Lady Cat Softball team members collect end-of-season honors

Canadian Lady Cats Softball Coach Cay Parnell this week reported several honors awarded to her players and announced at the close of the school year after playoffs ended. Sophomore Lilly Bradford was named All-District First Team infielder, and earned Honorable Mention on the Amarillo Globe-News Super Team. Four Lady Cats earned slots on the All-District Second Team: Senior Leah Moreno as pitcher, Junior Kenzie Flowers as catcher, and Freshman Shyann Blair and Junior Miranda Nunez as outfielders. Moreno also earned honors on the Academic All-State team.

Canadian ISD experiences staff turnover at close of school year

CISD administrators are shuffling the deck this summer as they address a number of staff changes. School board trustees have already approved the hiring of eight new teachers—several of them familiar to this community—and shifted six staff members to fill vacancies. They have also absorbed three positions without hiring new personnel.

WT Communication, Business Students Score Multiple Telly Awards for Videos

CANYON, Texas — West Texas A&M University students won 11 awards in recently announced results from the international Telly Awards .

Winning productions included a short film on the life and philanthropy of Sybil B. Harrington, which aired on regional television, and several short marketing pieces for the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business .

Canadian grads and honor students listed on WTA&MU’s official spring lists

CANYON, Texas — The final tally is 1,110 graduates for West Texas A&M University’s Class of May 2023.

Overall, the University awarded 828 baccalaureate degrees and 289 master’s degrees to spring graduates at the May 13 commencement ceremonies, following procedural confirmation from the University’s seven deans.

CHS Valedictorian Ben Bryant receives Liske Cup honors

Sixty Canadian High School seniors received their diplomas during graduation ceremonies held on Saturday, May 20, in the CHS Gymnasium.

Following addresses by Salutatorian Ella Walser and Valedictorian Ben Bryant, presentation of the diplomas to each graduate, and the symbolic shifting of tassels from right to left—representing each grad’s crossing over to a new stage in life—Canadian ISD Superintendent Lynn Pulliam named the annual winner of the coveted Liske Cup.

CMS Valedictorian Bridger Burrus is Abraham Cup honoree

Sixty-four eighth-grade students received diplomas signifying their graduation from Canadian Middle School Friday evening, May 19, in commencement ceremonies held at the CHS gymnasium.

Following a salutatory address by Joseph Dominguez, and a valedictory address by Bridger Burrus, CMS Principal Megan Longoria presented the eighth-grade class to members of the CISD Board of Trustees, who awarded diplomas to each student.

CHS 2022-23 sports season culminates in awards banquet

The following honors were presented to Canadian High School students in Monday night’s annual Athletic Awards Banquet, which was attended by an estimated 300 guests.

The year’s top awards went to Ella Walser, who received the Fighting Heart trophy, and Corbin Throgmorton, winner of the Fightingest Wildcat trophy. Brooklyn Cochran and Preston Miller were honored as Best All-Around Athletes, and Berkley Beedy and Trace Mitchell were celebrated as the Most Courageous Wildcat and Lady Cat.
