First sweepstakes still memorable

Body
WHEN WE MADE that first sweepstakes award, we painted the school bus so everyone along the way home would see our honors. We wore white shoes, so there was plenty of white shoe polish to finish the art. Mr. Waits is holding the trophy.

IMAGINE IF it was your child. Imagine that you had heard the alarm clock go off this morning, and fumbled through the dark to the kitchen, to start the coffee pot.

The Record sale

Body
I SAW YOUR AD on the last page of today’s Record. That makes me sad, but I certainly cannot blame you for wanting to retire after all these many years of very difficult, all-consuming work. I do hope that a good candidate comes along who will have an interest in saving the Record and who can continue in the manner in which you have published the paper for so many years.

Seeking donors

Body
ON MAY 12, my sister, Rachel Broadbent Collier, was diagnosed with the blood cancer lymphoma. She is the oldest of nine siblings as well as a wife and mother to five children. In the days since her diagnosis, her oncologist has told her that she is in need of a bone marrow transplant. In order for her to receive this transplant, she will need to match with a bone marrow donor. This transplant has the potential to save her life. If any of you feel called to be a donor, you can sign up at BeTheMatch.org. Whether you choose to be bone marrow donor, financial donor, or lift a prayer, we would appreciate it very much!

My memory of Robb Elementary

Body
I OVERSAW THE CONSTRUCTION of the Robb Elementary School building and the renovation of the existing wings. I remember the excitement of the teachers and the chatter of the children during the grand opening of the new facility.

Field Notes: Rain Gauge Report

Body
What began around 6 pm Tuesday evening as a light rainfall quickly morphed within the hour into a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds, gusting up to 45 mph. I had opened the windows—partly because I love fresh, cool air and the sound of rain, and partly because the 100-plus degree heat of earlier that day had hung on, and a damp, cool wind was just the ticket.
