The back-to-school mood for kids in my town is joyous! The elementary students have new shoes, new clothes, new backpacks, and new school supplies. They are brimming with excitement. Middle school and high school students have new haircuts in addition to new duds.

Behind the BTS Cover Art

Canadian River Art Center students Ashley Perry, Brooke Krehbiel, and Hondo Cervantes submitted artist entries for this week’s Back-to-School Special Edition’s cover page. All three artists displayed their creative abilities with their pieces.

4-H campers learn sewing and cooking skills

Twelve Hemphill County youth participated in a July 27 sewing camp conducted by Hemphill County 4-H. Participants learned how to thread and use a sewing machine, and more seasoned participants worked on their sewing skills. Each participant left with two items that they made.

Canadian High School’s Classes of ’61 and ‘63

The Canadian High School Class of 1961 met here on July 30-31 to celebrate their 60th class reunion. Friday evening was spent visiting at Jerry and Hollene Peery’s ranch home. On Saturday evening, the group met and visited at the home of Jim and Marge Hoobler.

In an ever-changing world, it’s important to understand new cultures; languages; and be willing to accept all people with different cultures, customs, and values. The Texas 4-H program has an incredible program that provides Texas 4-H members with the opportunity to explore and learn these things.

Hayze Hufstedler graduates from Air Force Basic Training

CHS Class of 2021 member Hayze Hufstedler graduated from Air Force BMT in San Antonio on Thursday, July 29. He is now training at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls as a crew chief, specializing in airlift/special mission aircraft maintenance on C-130 planes.

Texas sales tax holiday is Aug. 6-8

AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding shoppers they can save money on clothes and school supplies during the state’s sales tax holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6-8.
