CMS cross-country runners win district championships

Canadian’s CMS boys cross-country team claimed the district championship Saturday in Canyon, led by Jose Vargas, who crossed the finish line first out of 35 runners. In typical fashion, Vargas, who clocked in at 11:49, was followed by teammates Julian Dominguez (3rd, 12:12) and Juan Vargas (4th, 12:23).

Canadian and Spearman JV clash ends in 34-20 victory

The Canadian Wildcat junior varsity had a fight on their hands when they met the Spearman Lynx Thursday evening. Their serendipitous clash resulted when both teams’ scheduled opponents were forced to cancel—and, although the Cats emerged with a 34-20 win and their undefeated district record intact, the game lived up to its billing.

Q&A: Coach Andy Cavalier

Canadian Assistant Head Coach Andy Cavalier is in his seventh season leading the Wildcats defense. In his seven seasons at Canadian, Cavalier has built a reputation across the state for having one of the best defenses, year in and year out. Cavalier comes from great lineage. His late father, Dennis, built Pampa into a Class 4A power from 1987-2003. Cavalier played for his father, as well as playing college football at Eastern New Mexico. During his 22-year coaching career, Cavalier has been a head coach at Pampa with coaching stops at Tascosa and Eastland.
