John Philip Sousa Award winner x2

Body
For the second consecutive year, CHS Senior Alex Moreno was named the recipient of the Canadian High School Band’s 2020 John Philip Sousa Award. The award was presented by directors James and Daisy Edwards following the annual band banquet, which was videotaped and posted on social media. Moreno was also the winner of the band’s overall Outstanding Musician Award. “Alex is an incredible student, musician, and person,” Edwards said in making the presentation. Alex announced last month that he had committed to Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Houston, after receiving offers from several of the top music schools in the United States. He plans to earn a doctorate in orchestral conducting, and ultimately to be teaching at a university or conducting a professional orchestra—or both.
