A new report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) shows that the Biden administration’s historic vaccination program, which has gotten over 90 percent of seniors fully vaccinated and over 70 percent of seniors a booster shot nationwide, is linked to more than 650,000 fewer COVID-19 hospitalizations and more than 300,000 fewer deaths among seniors and other Americans enrolled in Medicare, including 45,200 fewer COVID-19 hospitalizations and 22,800 fewer deaths in Texas.

AMARILLO—The office of U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (TX-13) announced this week that he will host a town hall in Canadian. Jackson will offer introductory remarks and take questions from constituents. This event is open to the public, and no RSVP is necessary. The town hall will be held today (Thursday, Oct. 13) in the Hemphill County Exhibition Center’s Sand Sage Room, located at 10865 Exhibition Center Road, at 3 pm.

The Comancheria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is kicking off the 2022-23 season, and the first local meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 13, with Cindy Bowen as hostess. She will present the program on family heirlooms. The local chapter’s goals are to promote patriotism and remember our history through projects, awards, programs, and a scholarship fund.

AMARILLO—The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Transportation Planning and Programming (TPP) Division is collecting short-term traffic counts at 1,800 locations across the Amarillo District through Oct. 6. These 24-hour traffic counts will be collected for on-system roadways by contract personnel. Traffic counts are necessary to give TxDOT the information needed for designing new highway projects, determining where maintenance projects need to take place, and to aid in developing air-quality analyses in the district.
