Texas Panhandle War Museum notes anniversary of U.S. involvement in Vietnam

Body
Nov. 1 marks the anniversary the United States’ first intervention in the war between North and South Vietnam. The U.S. and other allies backed South Vietnam— assuming the role previously held by the French, who withdrew in 1955—while the Soviet Union, North Korea, and China backed the North. The war spanned Nov. 1, 1955, to April 30, 1975, when the South Vietnamese capital city, Saigon, was captured by the North. The last U.S. troops left Vietnam on March 29, 1973, the official end of this country’s involvement in the war.
