On Tuesday, June 13, a multivehicle crash occurred on Second Street in front of Dollar General.

A Ford F250, driven by John Floyd of Canadian, slowed to turn into the Dollar General parking lot but had to stop due to another vehicle blocking the entrance. Floyd's truck was struck from behind by a Peterbilt semi-tractor towing a loaded tank of anhydrous ammonia, driven by Lloyd Murphy of Amarillo. It was propelled over the curb into the Dollar General parking lot where it struck two parked cars.

The Peterbilt came to a stop in front of the Fronk Oil filling station. The Peterbilt, the Ford pickup and one of the parked vehicles received extensive damage.

Hemphill County EMS treated Floyd for minor injuries following the accident. Canadian Fire Department volunteers were also dispatched to assist in controlling the scene.

The Hemphill County Sheriff's Office investigated the accident, and issued a citation to the semi-truck driver for failure to control speed.
