Body ‘Tis already the season of giving at Panhandle Community Services Panhandle Community Services will be hosting its annual Festival of Trees ‘Denim and Pearls’ event on Friday, Nov. 19, at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens.

Body Janet Guthrie introduced David Godino as our program speaker last week. Of course, we all know David from the time he was a little boy. Janet said they were neighbors when David was young, and her dog ate all his toys.

Body When I was 8 or 9, I played a game that I invented with my friends. On index cards, alphabetized in a recipe box, were written descriptions of fictional ailments, each with a ridiculous name and an equally ridiculous cure.

Body Amanda Phillips looked at a traditional cabbage soup recipe and made it her own to rave reviews! The original recipe called for diced potatoes, and they can easily be added to make a hardier soup. Once the basics are combined, it is a taste-as-you-go soup.

Body Why anyone would want to plant 39 trees at the football field is a fair question. After giving a presentation about this project at Rotary, I got asked if I wanted to write this article. I’m more of a math guy, but I am giving writing a shot this week.

Body What a wonderful Fall Foliage we had this year! This year’s quilt show had many beautiful quilts on display, and we had almost 250 visitors over the weekend, with two-thirds of the visitors from out of town.

Body There are few things as daunting as buying jeans. I don’t buy jeans frequently enough to buy the same kind twice.

Body My tomato plants look horrid, just horrid BUT they are still producing lovely little red fruit so I will ignore the brown and limp foliage and make this delicious pasta. Roasting any vegetable enhances the flavor, with tomatoes it brings out a wonderful rich sweetness.

Body I am a person of generally good habits, which is why it is puzzling when I acquire a bad one. Habits are probably the most important thing when it comes to having a happy life.
