Senate resolution recognizes Dec. 18 as ‘Wreaths Across America Day’

WASHINGTON, D.C. —The Senate unanimously passed a resolution, introduced by U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, designating Saturday, Dec. 18, as “Wreaths Across America Day.” A convoy of volunteers will travel from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery to lay Maine-made balsam wreaths at the headstones of American veterans interred there.

PART I Following a bountiful and lip-smacking 113th Annual WCTU Bazaar on Friday—a longstanding holiday tradition—it was only logical to continue Canadian’s seasonal celebration with one of its newest events: the 2nd Annual Santa Claus Shuffle 5K Run and Elf Walk. All manner of jingle-belled and bedazzled runners, walkers, and baby-buggy riders shook off the previous day’s over-feasted lethargy—and even real runners, like Lady Cat cross-country stars Konnar McClendon and Arionna Black (in photo above right), pulled on running shoes, and greeted the chill air and crisp light of a beautiful Saturday morning at Sunset Park.

AMARILLO—Utility customers in the Texas Panhandle, including Xcel Energy customers, are encouraged to contact Panhandle Community Services, which serves the top 26 counties in the Texas Panhandle, in the coming days to apply for utility bill assistance if they are unable to pay their utility bills. Utility customers seeking assistance after Tuesday, Dec. 7 will need to schedule an appointment to discuss their needs with a PCS agent. Utility customers will need to pick up an application form at any one of PCS’s 14 regional offices, or contact PCS to have a form mailed, faxed, or emailed to their residence. Number of new COVID-19 cases rises here in midst of holiday season

The number of Texans hospitalized with COVID-19 is at one of its lowest points since the beginning of the pandemic, and the number of hospitals reporting full ICU units has levelled off, according to The Texas Tribune (https://apps.texastribune.org). However, the count of patients hospitalized rose by 300 compared to those a week ago, and the death rate increased by 20.
