How the Smiley Johnson Municipal Band came to be

Body

Sometimes, traditions become so routine it’s hard to remember how they began. This is true even in a community that cherishes long-standing traditions.

Many returning 4th of July spectators are sure to recognize and enjoy the Smiley Johnson Municipal Band on the Courthouse lawn the morning of the “Star-Spangled Salute” parade.

While many know how the band has evolved throughout the years, some might not. It’s important to remember this history so the tradition can be loved for years to come.

Body

Perryton’s Assistant City Manager Colby Waters just reported to The Canadian Record that due to an influx of generous donations from all over the country, the City of Perryton is inundated with provisions and materials that they have no way of handling under the existing difficult conditions created by Thursday’s deadly tornados. Food supplies are particularly difficult to handle because they have no way of storing or cooking those perishables. Power supplies have been compromised, and resources are stretched thin already.
