Since its premiere at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in February, For The Record, about The Canadian Record newspaper, has attracted much attention on a national level---including the PBS NewsHour, which will air a segment about the Record and Canadian on August 2.

Filmmaker Heather Courtney’s documentary about The Canadian Record and its editor and publisher Laurie Ezzell Brown screened this weekend at The Palace Theatre. The attendees all gave the film great reviews. The admission fee was $5 and designated for local non-profits. Wednesday morning, the donations were distributed to the Canadian Community Center and the Mesa View Senior Living Activity Fund. Representatives Ike Julian for the CCC and MVSL’s Activities Director Kellie Reeves were on hand at the Record office to accept them.

In the last annual summary reported by TxDOT, Hemphill County had reported 0 fatal crashes, 0 fatalities, 1 suspected serious crash with serious injuries, 3 suspected suspected minor crashes with 6 minor injuries, 1 crash with possible injury, 37 non-injury crashes with 66 non-injuries, and 1 unknown severity crash with unknown injury. The number of crashes totaled 43.
A plan to provide a gathering place for Canadian’s senior citizens has been quietly developing in weekly meetings. On Tuesday, July 11, the organizers issued a public invitation to all senior citizens to join them for fellowship and lunch at Mesa View Senior Living.
Texas lawmakers approved several bills during the 88th legislative session that will impact farmers, ranchers and rural Texans.
“This session was successful in strengthening our right to farm and ranch and passing additional liability protections for agriculture,” Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) President Russell Boening said. “It took all of our members working together as the voice of Texas agriculture this legislative session, and I’m proud of the work we did.”

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking public input on a proposal to list the dunes sagebrush lizard as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. This determination also serves as the 12-month finding on a petition to list the lizard and satisfies a court ordered deadline to deliver the finding to the Federal Register by June 29, 2023. After a rigorous review of the best available scientific and commercial information, the Service finds that listing the species is warranted.
