A plan to provide a gathering place for Canadian’s senior citizens has been quietly developing in weekly meetings. On Tuesday, July 11, the organizers issued a public invitation to all senior citizens to join them for fellowship and lunch at Mesa View Senior Living.

Texas lawmakers approved several bills during the 88th legislative session that will impact farmers, ranchers and rural Texans.

“This session was successful in strengthening our right to farm and ranch and passing additional liability protections for agriculture,” Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) President Russell Boening said. “It took all of our members working together as the voice of Texas agriculture this legislative session, and I’m proud of the work we did.”

USFWS seeks public input on proposed listing of dunes sagebrush lizard as endangered

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking public input on a proposal to list the dunes sagebrush lizard as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. This determination also serves as the 12-month finding on a petition to list the lizard and satisfies a court ordered deadline to deliver the finding to the Federal Register by June 29, 2023. After a rigorous review of the best available scientific and commercial information, the Service finds that listing the species is warranted.

AMARILLO—The Xcel Energy Foundation has granted $50,000 to disaster relief funds at the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon and the Amarillo Area Foundation to help Texas Panhandle residents affected by severe weather events during June.

For The Record documentary premieres locally at Palace Theatre July 15-16

Next weekend, Canadian’s Palace Theatre will host the local premiere of filmmaker Heather Courtney’s For The Record, a documentary that follows five years in the life of The Canadian Record, which was published for 75 years by the Ezzell family.

The 35-minute film will be shown twice: on Saturday, July 15, at 6:30 pm, and on Sunday afternoon, July 16, at 2 pm. Admission is $5/person. All proceeds will go to local non-profits.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—As Texans make plans to celebrate the Fourth of July, Texas A&M Forest Service encourages everyone to be careful with any outdoor activity that may cause a spark.

Excessive heat over the past two weeks has resulted in grasses drying across portions of North, Central and Southern regions of Texas. Areas with dry grass may support wildfire activity due to accidental ignitions from fireworks or other activities that cause a spark.
