An estimated 447 Xcel Energy customers in Canadian were impacted by a brief power outage on Sunday, June 4. The outage occurred at 10:52 am Sunday, and affected only a portion of residents within the city limits of Canadian. Power was restored within the hour.
A representative of Xcel contractor Plaska United Utility said the outage occurred while a crew was in the process of removing a damaged power pole—a project that has been underway here for about two months now. Of 176 poles needing replacement, only 31 remain.
When contacted shortly after the lights went out, Xcel’s Senior Media Relations Representative Wes Reeves said that substation personnel had already been dispatched. After determining that a breaker had been tripped, they checked out the system, found no other issues, closed the breaker and re-energized the feed.
Within an hour or so, affected residents were already reporting their power had been restored.
