Body Sept. 6 is Read a Book Day! For some of us, reading is as essential as breathing (OK, almost-but not as). Libraries used to be known as “the poor man’s university,” but with the advent of the internet, that name has fallen by the wayside.

Body Our newest Rotarian, Ike Julian, took us on a trip around the world with his classification speech. Ike has experienced more in his (almost) 33 years than many people do in a lifetime.

Body This custom handmade chicken coop, built by Tucker Landry and his mother, Denita, is constructed with reclaimed materials sourced right here in Canadian. Tucker, and eighth-grader at Canadian Middle School, loves animals of all kinds.

Body Sheila Pankratz hosted the high school chemistry and physics teacher, Wade Hood, as our speaker this week. Wade was scheduled to visit back in the spring to enlighten us on the teach-fromhome method while he was teaching from home.

Body BASIL PESTO Never met a basil plant I did not love. So each year, my garden is filled with many varieties: large leaf, Thai, lemon, globe, Genovese, and purple basil.

Body The Canadian Community Center is excited to announce a new partnership with Denita Landry for their new program, Mrs. Landry’s Little Learners.

Body The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is moving forward with plans to host a modified version of the annual Fall Foliage Festival. This year, the event will take place over the course of one day, Saturday, Oct. 17.

Body Thank you to everyone who donated to the pioneer and ranching education trunk! On Monday, I stopped by the post office to check our mail and was welcomed with an overflowing cart of boxes and packages. It barely fit into my little car!
