It wasn’t the best of weeks for the Canadian Lady Cats’ softball squad who were searching for their first District 1-3A win. The Lady Cats fell to Dalhart last Saturday 15-3, and then were beaten by No. 15-ranked Bushland 29-1 on Monday.

Canadian High School’s Ben Bryant gave it a nice run at the Region 1-3A Boys Golf Tournament at the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird on Monday and Tuesday, but came up short of qualifying for state. Bryant, playing as an individual, was still in contention after Monday’s opening round, shooting an 81.

Wildcat and Lady Cat JV and varsity tennis teams had a wildly successful day at the District Tournament in Pampa last Friday. These players won both the varsity and JV tourney championships, and the boys and girls championships.

Photos by John Moore The Canadian boys and girls teams both placed in the top five at the District 1-3A/2-3A Area track-and-field meet at Lubbock-Cooper on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats came in third place, totaling 78 points, while advancing a total of five individuals and two relay squads to the Region I-3A meet set for next Friday and Saturday in Abilene.

A pair of Canadian golfers will try and make their mark at the upcoming Region 1-3A Golf Tournament set for the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird starting Monday. Junior Briley Merket and sophomore Ben Bryant each punched tickets to Regional by qualifying as individuals at last month’s District 1-3A Golf Tournament.

The Canadian Lady Cats are still looking for their first district win on the year after coming up short to Bushland and River Road over the past week. Canadian fell to District 1-3A leader Bushland at home 21-0, last Saturday, and then let River Road build an early lead before trying to rally in a 19-8 loss Tuesday afternoon.

The Canadian Wildcat boys track and field team held off Bushland to claim the District 1-3A championship, while the Lady Cats came in third at Falcons Stadium in Bushland on Thursday. The Wildcats racked up 182 team points to Bushland’s 165 points to claim the district title.

Canadian is still seeking its first District 1-3A win of the season after falling on the road to Dalhart 14-4, last Thursday. The Lady Cats drop to 3-16 overall and are currently 0-4 through district.
