Sylvia Guerrero is candidate for County and District Clerk

Sylvia Guerrero announced her candidacy for Hemphill County and District clerk this week, saying she would seek the Republican Party nomination in the March 1, 2022, primary election. “I have been employed in the Hemphill County and District Clerk's office since March 1, 2014, starting as deputy clerk, and am now chief deputy clerk,” Guerrero said. “I have lived in Canadian for 27 years, and graduated from CHS in 1999. My husband, Hugo, and I are proud parents of Israel, who graduated from CHS in 2020; Elizabeth, who is in ninth grade; and Hector, who is in seventh grade.”

In Texas: Vaccinations up, COVID-19 cases down

According to the latest Texas Department of State Health Services reports, nearly 55 percent of Texans are now fullyvaccinated against COVID-19. While the Texans hospitalized with COVID is at one of its lowest points since the start of the pandemic, hospitalizations are beginning to rise, increasing by 213 patients compared to a week ago.

Hemphill County Appraisal District gets brief relief in MidCoast legal battle

Around $4 million in local property tax dollars are at stake in a two-year-long legal battle between the Hemphill County Appraisal District and MidCoast G&P (Oklahoma) L.P. MidCoast filed a lawsuit challenging the appraised values for 2019 and 2020 on property where its pipelines are located.
