The newly passed district includes Andrews, Bailey, Briscoe, Castro, Childress, Cochran, Collingsworth, Donley, Gaines, Gray, Hale, Hall, Hemphill, Hockley, Lamb, Roberts, Swisher, Wheeler, and Yoakum counties.

AUSTIN—Texas physicians and health professionals today called on Gov. Greg Abbott to rescind his executive order from Monday prohibiting any entities in the state—including hospitals—from requiring their workers or customers to get vaccinated against COVID-19. They criticized Gov. Abbott’s politically-driven anti-vaccine policies for threatening more COVID-19 cases in the already hard hit state.

Social Security announces 5.9 percent benefit increase for 2022

Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for approximately 70 million Americans will increase 5.9 percent in 2022, the Social Security Administration announced today. The 5.9 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will begin with benefits payable to more than 64 million Social Security beneficiaries in January 2022.

COVID-19 updates from CISD, HCH

Since last Thursday, Canadian ISD has confirmed five new positive cases of COVID-19. As of Tuesday, Oct. 12, the school is reporting four active cases, out of 34 total cases that have been reported since August 16, with 30 of those having returned to campus after the required quarantine period. At Hemphill County Hospital, twenty-two positive test results have been reported in the last 14 days, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 12. There are now ten active cases in Hemphill County, based on COVID-19 tests performed by the HCH Laboratory Department. There are no in-patients with COVID-19 hospitalized here, at this point.
