Filing ends Monday for candidates in 2024 party primaries, general election
Time is running out for candidates to file in the March 5, 2024, primary elections. Filing began on November 11, and the deadline is on Monday, December 11, at 6 pm.
Some local officials have already announced their intent to seek re-election.
Two local officials—Hemphill County Sheriff Brent Clapp and Precinct 1 County Commissioner Dawn Webb—have already announced their plans to seek the Republican Party nomination in their re-election bids. Precinct 3 County Commissioner Dale Schafer, who was appointed to fill the unexpired of Curt McPherson following his resignation, has announced his primary election bid to a full term of office. In addition, State Representative Ken King (HD88) has announced his re-election bid. Those announcements have been published online at www.canadianrecord.com (see links below).
Local and district offices that will be on the 2024 primary and general election ballot include those of Hemphill County Tax Assessor/Collector, Hemphill County Attorney, Hemphill County Commissioner (Precincts 1 and 3), Hemphill County Sheriff, and 31st District Attorney.
Hemphill County residents wishing to file as candidates in the Republican Party primary may contact County Republican Party Chairman Kyle Barnett by calling 806.683.6046.
In the absence of a Hemphill County Democratic Party Chair, any person wishing to file as a candidate for office in the Democratic Party primary may contact County/District Clerk Sylvia Guerrero by calling 806.323.6212 or by email at sylviag@hemphill-clerk.com.
