Jacey Rhea Grba, born November 2, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Jason and Kelsey (Hanes) Grba; 8 lbs. 3 oz. Welcoming her home were big brothers, Jackson and Reed; proud grandparents, Jesse and Jonilyn Hanes of Canadian; Debby Grba of Goldthwaite; great-grandparents Laura Lee Wilson of Canadian and Esther Preimesberger of Spring; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

American Legion Post 56 to dedicate flagpole at Mesa View Complex Friday afternoon

Members of the American Legion Zybach-Owens Post 56 met at the Mesa View Complex on Saturday afternoon, October 28, for a project to install a refurbished flagpole.

Warren Rivers, Jason Bradford, and Alfred Godino used a North Plains Electric Coop bucket truck to remove the pole from its location at the former nursing home site. Rivers repaired and repainted it.

Panhandle Community Services Awarded $700,000 Through the Texas Veteran’s Commission

Panhandle Community Services will be able to continue serving Veteran’s in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle through funds received from the Texas Veteran’s Commission. Two programs exist Restoring America’s Heroes Project, which will be able to provide critical home repairs for both Veterans and their surviving spouses and a general assistance program as well.

‘The American Buffalo’ and ‘Strong Spirit’ to premiere on Panhandle PBS

“The American Buffalo,” a new two-part, four-hour film directed by Ken Burns, will premiere at 7 pm, October 16 and 17, on Panhandle PBS. Following the documentary is the premiere of “Strong Spirit,” a two-part series from Panhandle PBS that coincides with “The American Buffalo,” and features bison and Native Americans in the Texas Panhandle.

Texas Pollinator BioBlitz Kicks off today, Friday, Oct. 6

AUSTIN—From Oct. 6-22, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will kick off the eighth annual Texas Pollinator BioBlitz, celebrating the bees, wasps, butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, hummingbirds, nectar-feeding bats, and other animals that serve as pollinators across Texas.

Join event partners TPWD, National Butterfly Center, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, National Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to celebrate the importance of pollinators.

The Hemphill County Library will host an adult craft class---String Art---this Thursday, September 21, at 2 pm. Call the library at 323-5282 to reserve a spot. Have in mind what design you’d like to do. The foam boards are 8”x10”, and the wood circles are about 7” in diameter.

New partnership provides no-cost screening for uninsured women

Amarillo – Panhandle Breast Health (PBH) and Pampa Regional Medical Center (PRMC) announce a partnership for uninsured women to receive no-cost screening mammograms in Pampa. The hospital recently added 3D mammography to its screening services and PBH will provide funding for the program as part of its Positively Pink Breast Cancer Screening Initiative.
