OBITUARY: (Arlen) Dean Looper

Body

(Arlen) Dean Looper, 83, died on June 23, 2024, from pancreatic cancer in Pampa, Texas. He wasn’t born in Texas but he darn sure made sure he died there.

He was born in Denver, Colorado, to Bill and Jane and was raised by a committee of relatives including his uncle JD and his Mammie. He was raised in Seattle and lived all over the world. But his love was for the Panhandle of Texas, where his people came from.

Highway 60 traffic switch to begin this Thursday in Canadian

CANADIAN – Beginning Thursday, June 27, traffic will switch from westbound US 60 to the eastbound side as crews continue to work on the US 60 Highway Improvement Project in Canadian. The project extends from Birch Street on the south edge of Canadian to the intersection with Main Street in the center of downtown.

Virginia Gober, 83, of Amarillo, passed away on June 22, 2024, at her home in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, June 27, at the Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S Soncy Rd., with Pastor Bob Schroeder officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Deloris Faye (Batts) Stout was born on February 8, 1943, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to Roger Batts and Gladys Hogan Batts. She passed away on June 21, 2024, in Frisco at the age of 81.

Growing up, Deloris excelled in sports and achieved All-State honors in Basketball during high school. She was recognized for her speech skill and loved drama class. Deloris had built-in playmates her whole life, including her three sisters and one brother. The siblings loved playing together and worked hard to support themselves.

Canadian’s annual communitywide Memorial Day ceremony will be held on Monday, May 27, at 11 am. This is one of Canadian’s most important events, honoring generations of men and women of Hemphill County who served in the defense of their country.

As in years past, Canadian’s American Legion Post 56 will conduct this year’s ceremony, which will be held at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery.
