FEMA funding is available for Residential Safe Room installation

The Panhandle Regional Planning Commission (PRPC) reminds Panhandle homeowners that there are resources available to assist with the installation of a tornado shelter in or around their residence. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has stated that a tornado shelter, or safe room, “can help provide near-absolute protection for you and your family.”

TxDOT employees recognized as Texans Caring for Texans

AMARILLO—More than 50 people representing multiple state agencies were honored at the 27th Annual Texans Caring for Texans event on Thursday, Aug. 4. This included several employees from both the Amarillo and Childress districts of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)—all of whom were recognized for their outstanding service to the state and the communities they serve.

Postcard sent to local taxpayers provides link to online truth-in-taxation tool Every Hemphill County taxpayer should by now have received a card in the mail from Tax Assessor-Collector Chris Jackson, with a link to texas.gov/propertytaxes, an online truth-in-taxation tool intended to help demystify the annual process of tax rate setting and adoption. The link connects taxpayers to information regarding your property taxes, including the amount of taxes that each taxing entity will impose if its proposed tax rate is adopted.

School board seeks public input on budget and tax rate Aug. 16

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, the Canadian ISD board of trustees will conduct a public meeting to discuss the district’s 2022-23 budget, which will determine the tax rate that will be adopted. Members of the community are welcome to attend as well as to submit their comments, questions, and concerns.
