Flags were waving all over town this Labor Day thanks to Canadian’s Rotarty Club, District 1645. For a $60 annual subscription, club members install flags at your home or business on Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Fall Foliage and Veterans Day.

Stop the Bleed training resumes here Sept. 26

Be prepared is an excellent motto, not only for Boy Scouts, but for all of us. A quick look at the latest headlines is a reminder that we never ever know what the day has in store for us. With that in mind, Canadian’s American Legion Post 56 is resuming Stop the Bleed training. Uncontrolled bleeding is the No. 1 preventable cause of death following an injury.

Hemphill County Court hears one plea in Aug. 18 docket call

Amelia Pantoja pled guilty to assault causing bodily injury in a Hemphill County Court hearing held on Thursday, Aug. 18. Pantoja was sentenced to 12 months of deferred adjudication, and ordered to pay a $750 fine and all court costs and to meet all terms and conditions of her probation.

Motions for continuance were filed in several other cases, which were passed to the next docket. Two cases were dismissed.

Cornhole Tourney raises money for Crooks family

A cornhole tournament was held here Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Canadian Rodeo Arena, with all proceeds from the event going to benefit the Marc Crooks family. Crooks was badly burned in an Aug. 3 explosion at an Energy Transfer natural gas processing location on Lake Marvin Road, and is now undergoing extensive treatment at the UMC Health System Burn Center in Lubbock.
