He was born to Tate and Maggie Jones in Dougherty, Texas. He grew up on the family farm and attended schools in Dougherty and Floydada.

Jerry Faulkner was born on August 13, 1950, in Princeton, Indiana, to John and Arminta (Becky) Faulkner. He graduated from Canadian High School in 1968 and served in the U.S Navy for 4 years on the submarine USS Cutlass stationed in Morocco. Jerry worked mainly in the oil, gas and mining industries.
