OBITUARY: JOHN WAYNE FLOYD

Body

John Wayne Floyd of Canadian passed into his heavenly home on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in Canadian with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, February 6, at the First Baptist Church of Canadian. Burial with Military Honors will be 2 pm at the Erick Cemetery in Erick, Oklahoma. John’s brother, Charlie Floyd, will be officiating.  Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

OBITUARY: LARRY ‘RABBIT’ WRIGHT

Body

Rabbit Wright, 83, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, in Deming, New Mexico. Rabbit was born July 18, 1941 in Glazier, Texas, to Clint and Annie Wright. 

He served in the Army. As part of his service, he was in Vietnam. He met the love of his life Marie Hall and married her December 31, 1981 in Canadian. He worked at Canadian ISD as the Transportation Coordinator until he retired in 2004. He and Marie moved to Deming in 2004. He became an active member in Helping Hands and Meals on Wheels while there.

OBITUARY: JOE CALVIN WHEELER

Body

Joe Calvin Wheeler, 83, of Skellytown, passed away at University Medical Center in Lubbock on Saturday, February 1, 2025. A memorial was held on Sunday. Burial will follow in the Miami Cemetery at a later date.

Joe was born to Alton “Tony” Wheeler and Eula Fay Larson in Canadian, Texas on April 13, 1941.

Eugene Peter Lawryk, 70 of Balko, Oklahoma stepped into his heavenly home on January 28, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Cremation Memorial Services will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Darrouzett Cemetery in Lipscomb County with Deacon Sergio Estrada, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Perryton, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Dennis Wayne Williams, 74, of Pampa, Texas, took his final ride over the endless roads of Heaven on the morning of Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas. He was born in Canadian, Texas, on June 26, 1950, to Dennis L. Williams and Nona L. Gray.

James "Jim" Edward Russell, 80, of Elk City, Oklahoma, passed peacefully on January 22, 2025.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 31, 2025, in the Edith Ford Cemeteries located at 507 9th Street, Canadian, Texas. 

James Edward Russell, or Jim as he was known, was born on April 6, 1944, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Clyde H. and Mabel (Roberts) Russell.

OBITUARY: LILLIE AGUILAR

Body

Lillie O Aguilar, 84 of Van Buren passed away peacefully Sunday, January 5, 2025 in her home. She was a part of Crawford County’s Extension Program; a long-standing member of GFWC in Van Buren, a past Woman of the Year and a fantastic volunteer. She was a loving soul, who loved to bake and do crafts. She was retired from the State of Texas as a caseworker and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by two sisters Lala Aguilar and Hortensia Aguilar Strickland; two brothers Raul and Robert Aguilar.

Virginia B. Salamino Barclay McWhorter was born January 29, 1940, to Dominick and Rose Salamino in Lenox, New York. She grew up and went to school in Canastota, New York. Virginia passed from her earthly life on November 23, 2024, at her home in Higgins, Texas.

OBITUARY: ROBERT WILSON EZZELL

Body

Robert Wilson Ezzell, 76, of Canadian, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Capstone Healthcare of Perryton.

Robert was born on August 13, 1948, to Ben and Nancy Ezzell at the Hemphill County Hospital. He attended Canadian public schools and graduated with the Canadian High School Class of 1966. He attended West Texas State University in Canyon, where he lived and worked before returning to Canadian.

Billy Wayne Schafer, 64, of Canadian, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 in Canadian.

Memorial graveside services will be at 11 am on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Ellis County, Oklahoma with Shawn Davis officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

The family will meet at the funeral home at 10 am on Saturday and lead everyone to the cemetery.
