Citing the devastating effects that Winter Storm Uri had on the state of Texas, North Plains Electric Cooperative announced last week that its members would see an increase of 10 to 15 percent in future statements, in comparison to those received in 2020.

The Canadian softball team suffered a couple of tough losses in District 1-3A play this past week. The Lady Cats fell to River Road 20-5, at home Tuesday, and were beaten by powerhouse Bushland 27-0, last Friday. Canadian is now 3-15 overall, while still seeking its first district win on the year, currently sitting at 0-3.

Canadian’s Volunteer Fire Department was called out early this week to fight a series of small fires. On Monday, around 12:30 pm, the VFD sent five units to a house fire at the intersection of US 83 South and County Road T.

Canadian High School junior Maddie Brewster is a state qualifier in the annual VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) competition for her Huichol yarn painting, entitled Tropical Tree Frog. Brewster is the student of Karol Ann Michelsen, the CHS/ CMS art class instructor.
