Xcel gives notice of advanced metering regulatory filing

AMARILLO—Xcel Energy’s Texas customers are receiving notices in the mail outlining the company’s regulatory filing and plans to invest in grid modernization, including information on advanced metering technology that will enable more efficient outage restoration and pave the way for new products and services that will allow customers to have more data to manage their energy usage and keep their bills low.

In order to vote, citizens must be on the official list of registered voters. Check registration status at votetexas.gov.

Voters may use one of seven forms of photo ID, listed below.

• Texas driver’s license.

• Texas Election Identification Certificate.

• Texas Personal Identification Card issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

HCUWCD hosts 10th Annual Water Fest for BES students

The Hemphill County Underground Water Conservation District recently hosted their 10th Annual Water Festival for Canadian Baker School fifth-graders. The water district partnered with the Ogallala Commons on this venture to educate the students on a variety of water issues through hands-on activities and outdoor exploration.

Murder at the Art Show

The Canadian Art’s Alliance staging of Murder at the Art Show was a great success. Director Kayla Gregg honed the timing and dialogue between the 10 actors, and it was spot on. “We were so happy to be able to hold community theatre after such a long hiatus. The actors’ and director’s hard work paid off,” said Ike Julian, CAA board member. “They all did a wonderful job, and kept the laughs coming. The audience was thrilled to come out and enjoy the show, and the CAA was thrilled to facilitate the arts in Canadian.” The Murder at the Art Show cast included Jocelyn Timmons, Wendy Wright, Brian Broadbent, Bobby Gregg, Vanessa Huff, Mistie Walser, Sawyer Landry, Angie Hawkins, Randy Walser, and Kyle Wright, with cameo appearances by Dale Jenkins and Adam Hawkins. A free, virtual legal clinic for veterans needing help will be held from 1-4 pm on Thursday, Nov. 11. The clinic, hosted by Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, offers help to low-income Panhandle-area veterans who need advice or representation on issues involving eviction and housing matters, public benefits, family law, consumer and debt issues, federal tax matters, and end-of-life documents. Eligible veterans will speak one-onone with an attorney during their virtual appointment. Interested veterans should call 806.373.6808, ext. 6503, no later than Tuesday, Nov. 9, to arrange for an appointment. Callers are asked to leave a message with name, phone number and a brief description of their legal issue. Calls will be returned by Legal Aid with an appointment time.

CANADIAN—Pampa Area Engineer Zachary Mayer has announced that James “Nate” Beavers has accepted the role of Canadian section supervisor, effective Oct. 1. Beavers began working with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in January 2019 at the Perryton maintenance section where he quickly moved up to crew chief.

The Canadian River Beach Club’s Annual Calf Fry Festival and BBQ Cook-Off lives up to its name, once again. It really was a ball, y’all, as was obvious in the smiling faces that were plentiful at Jones Pavilion and around the county recreation complex all day and into the evening.
