I am pleased to announce my intent to seek re-election to the position of Hemphill County commissioner, Precinct 4. I enjoy my service to the community. I’ve served in not so great economic times for our area, and always try to analyze and vote in the best interest of the county as a whole. I’m available anytime at 806.323.3445. Nov. 1 marks the anniversary the United States’ first intervention in the war between North and South Vietnam. The U.S. and other allies backed South Vietnam— assuming the role previously held by the French, who withdrew in 1955—while the Soviet Union, North Korea, and China backed the North. The war spanned Nov. 1, 1955, to April 30, 1975, when the South Vietnamese capital city, Saigon, was captured by the North. The last U.S. troops left Vietnam on March 29, 1973, the official end of this country’s involvement in the war.

CANADIAN—Hemphill County Extension Agent Andy Holloway this week announced that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be the lead keynote speaker for the 2022 Capital Farm Credit/Texas A&M AgriLife Beef Cattle Conference, which is scheduled for April 26-27 in Canadian.

During the financial reports delivered in the Oct. 19 Hemphill County Hospital District board meeting, Jennifer Cox, with Thomas & Thomas Financial Management Services, reported $5.6 million in cash for the district, as of Oct. 15. The amount included $837,944 in undedicated cash; $3.7 million in the tax account; $613,000 in CDs; and $503,000 in dedicated cash. The tax account figure represented $200,000 in year ‘22 tax payments.
