A NOTE TO THE READER: This report is in no way intended to serve as a complete account of the 250-page investigative report released last week by the Office of Texas’ Attorney General, or of the 4-hour presentation made by Klein Investigations and Consulting in Canadian last Wednesday. It is an attempt to characterize the inherent conflict in two reports addressing the mystery of Thomas Brown’s disappearance five years ago, and the continuing impact of his death on the town of Canadian. Shawn and Cheryl Hill lost their Higgins home in an early Sunday morning fire. They and their two daughters, Kendal and Camryn, escaped the blaze unharmed, with the exception of first- and second-degree burns Shaw sustained from the fire’s heat.

Last year’s trial run of #ColorfulCanadian wasn’t without its pitfalls. The learning curve for installing those beautiful curtains of Christmas lights was just steep enough to be humbling, but not defeating.

Canadian VFD was called to a grass fire on US 60 south of Canadian last Sunday afternoon, around 3:42 pm. The fire was on the northbound side of the highway, near Aud, the dinosaur. In January 2018, the Hemphill County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Office of the Attorney General with the investigation into the death of Thomas Brown of Canadian, Texas. Since that time, investigators with the Special Investigations Group in the Attorney General’s Office, along with other law enforcement agencies, have put thousands of hours of work into this case, interviewed numerous witnesses, and submitted various items of evidence to undergo forensic testing. Additionally, in early 2021, the Attorney General’s Office established a Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit that also reviewed this matter enlisting independent experts to possibly identify any further leads that could be developed.
