Ashley Morales of Hemphill Country Hospital presented at last week’s Rotary Club meeting. Morales’s presentation covered five areas of service provided by the Hemphill County Hospital: home health, hospice, personal assistance services, transitional care management, and remote patient monitoring.

A new month has brought a new exhibit. In March and April, we are featuring Booker artist Kellye Orel. Stay tuned for the date of her reception. The museum staff is cleaning and prepping with the appropriate supplies to keep our visitors safe in this “Flu” season. We are also preparing our first newsletter for the year, and starting our membership drive. It is time to complete an annual report, so stay tuned for our activity reports for 2019.

Some days, when the snow is falling in giant wet clumps outside our windows, and the Panhandle wind starts blowing it sideways, it just makes sense to take a break from work and run outside to play. That’s what staffers Cheri Smith (with daughter Lily) and Mary Smithee did on Tuesday afternoon, and it was great fun for about as long as it took to shoot this photo, before the frigid cold drove them back inside.

We had an active weekend with our county Student Art Exhibit Reception. An attendance of over 100 people were present to see the students receive their awards. The following is a list of the recipients:

My husband, Peter, likes buying in bulk. Peter hates paying shipping fees. He never wants to run out of anything, and he loves a bargain. This is why we buy coffee in enormous bags, crackers by the case, nuts and raisins 10 pounds at a time, rice in 20-pound bags, and beans in 50-pound bags. It is sometimes a little alarming when the boxes arrive.

The 2020 Chamber banquet is taking a step back in time, a hundred years to be to be precise, hosting a Roaring ‘20s Casino Night this Saturday, Feb. 29. Find your fringe and fedora, and sashay down to the River Valley Pioneer Museum to enjoy food, entertainment, games, and award presentations. Last week’s scheduled Rotary program presenter was unable to come, so President Shane Harris presented the ABCs of what Rotary stands for and of the ethics for which members strive.

Tina Jarosek first shared this soup with me and then provided the recipe when I gave it a five-star review. The recipe first appeared in a March 2007 issue of Oprah Magazine.
