In a time of great uncertainty due to the coronavirus outbreak, Canadian’s local businesses are already beginning to feel the effects. We have already seen some economic fallout resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak, and over the coming weeks and months, we can only anticipate that our favorite restaurants, hotels, shops, salons, theatre, markets, and other hardworking Canadian businesses are going to be affected. The Canadian Record staffers are proud of Canadian citizens, and we share in everyone’s concerns about the families who will struggle to make ends meet in coming weeks, the owners of small businesses who may be stretched thin, and the people whose jobs will be influenced.

An enormous box arrives at our house. It is filled with food and cleaning supplies, and, yes, toilet paper. I feel guilty. But the truth is, these supplies were ordered months ago. My husband, Peter, was a hoarder long before hoarding was in fashion. “Here you go!” Peter says, as he unpacks the latest shipment. “Eight more pounds of oatmeal!”

This is a variation of a Weight Watchers recipe I enjoyed that my sister-inlaw fixed years ago. Ground beef is replaced with a lower fat ground turkey, and yogurt is used instead of sour cream. I like to spice mine up with plenty of seasoning, fresh garlic, onion, and peppers. It’s a great recipe to double because it freezes well. You can enjoy this tasty Mexican food for lunch, and not even need a nap...
Kids' Grab and Go Meals are ready for pickup at Canadian Elementary

The Canadian Elementary School Cafeteria kitchen crew has been working since 6 am today to prepare breakfasts and lunches for CISD students and their brothers and sisters, ages 0-18 years old, who need a good meal while school is not in session. The meals are free and can be picked up in front of Canadian Elementary one daily, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 to 11 am. Anyone who is unable to get to the school is asked to call 806.323.6931, extension 1283, to arrange for home delivery.

Ansel Adams, (Feb. 20, 1902-April 22, 1984) is best known as a celebrated American landscape photographer and environmentalist. His iconic photos of the American West are some of the most recognized images of American landmarks. A new art form, Adams’ photographs were some of the first to be displayed in national museums. His talent forever redefined photography as art in its own right, and secured photography’s legitimacy as an art form. Adams was also instrumental in exposing the American public to Teddy Roosevelt’s newly established National Parks.

Jacques Pepin is Mike’s favorite chef. Mike is my favorite chef when he bakes this bread. He loves Jacques because it is known that his favorite wine is a Côtes du Rhône and believes that you should “spend your money on good eggs and champaign and never spend more than $20 on a bottle of wine.”
