From Canadian ISD: Understanding the $20 Million Bond Issue

The Canadian ISD Board of Trustees has called for a $20 million Bond Issue Election to be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2024. Early voting will run from April 22 to April 30 at the CISD Business Office.

The objective of the proposed bond propositions is to fund existing expenses in such a way that less local tax revenue is sent to the State in the form of recapture, and more of the local revenue is used to serve Canadian ISD students. The 2024 Bond Proposal comprises two key propositions:

Voters will head to the polls this Saturday, May 4, to determine the results of two contested races—one, for the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees, and the other, for the Hemphill County Hospital District Board of Directors—and to decide the fate of the $20 million bond issue proposed by Canadian ISD [see related story].

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees. I have long been an advocate for education and Canadian’s reputation for its academic excellence was a major reason for my decision to locate here in 2011. I personally have experience with education at a variety of levels and know the value of having a strong foundation in the K-12 level.

Early voting in March 5 party primaries is underway at Hemphill County Courthouse

Early voting in the March 5 Democratic and Republican primaries began this morning, Tuesday, February 20, at the Hemphill County Courthouse in Canadian.

Local and district offices on the 2024 primary election ballots include those of Hemphill County Tax Assessor/Collector, Hemphill County Attorney , Hemphill County Commissioner (Precincts 1 and 3), Hemphill County Sheriff, and 31st District Attorney.

UPDATED: Friday filing sets up contested school, hospital board races in May 4 elections

Candidate filing ended this week for those seeking a place on the ballot in the local May 4 elections. In a flurry of last-minute action before Friday’s deadline, several candidates signed up, filling what were potentially vacant seats and setting the stage for contested school and hospital board races.

Altogether, nine elected positions were up for grabs in the spring election, including three city council seats, two seats on the hospital board, two on the school board, and two on the water board.

Precinct polling places open Tuesday in Constitutional Amendment election

On Tuesday, November 7, Texas voters will determine the fate of 14 proposed amendments to the state constitution. The subjects of the propositions range from local to regional to statewide issues, covering parks, internet, teachers pensions, property taxes and other matters of critical importance to Texans.
