FPC Rodeo once again hosted the 2023 Southwest Region NIRA Frank Phillips College Rodeo October 12-14 in the cowboy town of Canadian. Over 680 contestants attended the three-day event, along with their coaches, families and cheering sections.

FPC was well-represented with four athletes qualifying for the Top 10 Championship Round.

Sophomore Breakaway-Roper Jacelyn Frost from Randlett, Utah, turned in a 2.4-second run for the fastest time of the weekend, earning the #1 spot out of 240 contestants in the event.

Goat-Tyers Kaylee Stroud, of Lubbock, and Grace Perez, of Santa Clarita, California, also both qualified for the Top 10 Championship Round with times of 7.4 and 7.6. Sophomore Stroud finished 3rd in the Long Round, 4th in the Short Round, and 4th in the aggregate. Freshman Perez had a little rough luck in the short round, catching her competition vest in her tie, which resulted in a no time.

Sophomore Steer-Wrestler Blair Mabry represented the men’s team in Saturday night’s Short Round with a qualifying time of 5.8 seconds.

FPC Rodeo Breakaway-Ropers also performed well with two additional ropers—Sophomore Jacee Graff and Freshman Grace Perez—turning in times of 2.9 to place 11th, just shy of the Top 10 qualifying time of 2.8 out of the 240 contestants.

Overall, the FPC Rodeo Women’s Team tied for 3rd-place out of the 18 competing colleges and universities.
