Barbara was born October 7, 1943, in Amarillo to Kenneth and Anna Ruth Erwin. She graduated from Canyon High School in the class of 1962. After high school, she attended West Texas State University and transferred to Oklahoma Panhandle State University to complete her bachelor's degree in education. Barbara was a teacher for over 30 years, working in several communities, including Claude and Canadian. She retired in 1998. She married Jackie Burns in 1965 and he passed away in 1993. It was five years later before she married Dale Sides in 1998. They had a wonderful 25 years of marriage. The two of them lived in Waynoka, Oklahoma and later moved to Fairview, Oklahoma until 2018, when they moved to Amarillo.

Barbara was a member of Fairview Methodist Church in Oklahoma, volunteered for hospice, delivered meals on wheels, and was a member of PEO. She also spent time mentoring and tutoring. Barbara was very creative in whatever she did. She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts and could sew just about anything. She was proud of her family, especially her grandchildren. NaNa, as she was known to her grandchildren, tried to make every event or program that each of them were involved in. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
