Primary runoffs reveal little interest, no surprise in final voting before Nov. 8 General Election

As was expected, the May 24 primary runoff election here in Hemphill County elicited little interest. Of 2,299 registered voters in this county, only 217 actually cast runoff ballots—all but a dozen of those on Republican candidates.

Jim Haley’s 20 years of service to the Hemphill County Underground Water Conservation District—and to the residents of Hemphill County—was honored in a reception held Thursday afternoon at the water district offices. Family, friends, staff members, and fellow board members, both past and present, were on hand to thank Haley for his tireless work on their behalf.

The Canadian/Hemphill County Chamber of Commerce is issuing a call to the general public requesting any event information that needs to be included on the annual 4th of July schedule of events, and asking that it be delivered to their office no later than Friday, May 27, at 5 pm. No exceptions will be made. All traditional Independence Day activities will take place on Monday, July 4.
