AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding families and businesses that they can save on the purchase of certain water- and energy-efficient products during the state’s water-efficient products and ENERGY STAR® sales tax holidays.

As was expected, the May 24 primary runoff election here in Hemphill County elicited little interest. Of 2,299 registered voters in this county, only 217 actually cast runoff ballots—all but a dozen of those on Republican candidates.

At last month’s American Legion meeting here, a decision was made that today seems strangely prescient in light of last week’s two mass shooting events. The decision to which I refer was to resume Stop the Bleed training in Canadian and surrounding communities.

The Canadian City Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with other local taxing entities Monday evening, agreeing to offer the former Canadian Apartment property, located at 203 Birch St., for sale at a public auction to be held on the courthouse steps.

Canadian City Council members unanimously approved an order Monday evening, calling a special election to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8, legalizing the sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed beverages, within the city limits.
