Rural counties face fifth straight week of record COVID-19 deaths

Texas is preparing to distribute the COVID-19 vaccination to medical staff and other first responders later this month. “Texas is ready to distribute these vaccines in the coming days,” Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted Sunday, sharing a Wall Street Journal news story about United Airlines operating charter flights to position doses of Pfizer Inc.’s COVID-19 vaccine for quick distribution if the shots are approved by regulators. County funds EDC request for $12,000 first job-creation/remote-worker grant

The entire board of the Canadian/Hemphill County Economic Development Council was present for Monday’s commissioners court meeting. It was an impressive show of support for a request to fund a $12,000 jobcreation grant, which marks the start of a new initiative by the EDC to attract remote workers to the community.

With back taxes owed, nuisances unabated, ruling on apartments expected this month

A default judgment on the now-vacant Canadian Apartments, located at 203 Birch, will be issued in court sometime this month. Once the judgment is returned, the property may be offered for sale by local taxing entities in an effort to recoup the back taxes owed and return the property to the tax rolls.
