SACRAMENTO, CA – Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to Texas businesses and residents affected by the Smokehouse Creek Fire and the Windy Deuce Fire that began Feb. 26, announced Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Landowners and agricultural producers are beginning the recovery process by assessing damages left in the wake of the Smokehouse Creek fire and other fires in the Texas Panhandle.

AUSTIN – On Tuesday, March 12, Speaker Dade Phelan announced the creation of an Investigative Committee on the Panhandle Wildfires. Representative Ken King will serve as the Chair of this committee which will include Representatives Burrows and Hunter, as well as community members Jason Abraham and Ashley Cash.
The posters above depicting the recent wildfires were created by Baker Elementary 3rd Graders and are displayed at Brown Bag Roasters in downtown Canadian.

Massive wildfires ignited by power lines
Two wildfires that burned more than 1 million acres in the Panhandle were caused by downed power lines, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Juan Rodriguez, with the service, told the Texas Standard that its law enforcement investigators had concluded their probe into the source of the Smokehouse Creek and Windy Deuce fires.
These posters accompanied some of the supplies delivered to the Exhibition Center during the relief effort for those affected by the wildfires.
