Book release and autograph party planned for author Taylor Moore at Stumblin’ Goat Friday

Taylor Moore, author of Down Range and Firestorm, is bringing his just-released third book in the popular Garrett Kohl series with him to Canadian this week for an autograph party at the Stumblin’ Goat Saloon.

Moore will be at The Goat from 5-7 pm on Friday, Sept. 1, for the release of his new book, Ricochet. Copies will be available for purchase and for autographs.

USFWS extends public comment on proposed Dunes Sagebrush Lizard listing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is extending the public comment period seeking public input on a proposal to list the dunes sagebrush lizard as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. The public comment period will now be open for 90 days, closing October 2, 2023.

Vehicle theft in Canadian leads to lengthy chase and arrest of suspect in Wheeler County

On Saturday, August 26, the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office reported the apprehension and arrest of Brennon Joel Meyers, 36, on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, aggravated assault of a public servant, deadly conduct and reckless driving.

Texans asked to conserve energy in heat wave
The agency that operates the power grid for much of the state asked Texans to conserve energy use several times last week as the grid was beset with high demand and low wind-power generation, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has asked electric users to reduce energy use as the state continues to face a tenacious heat wave.

Drone and firefighting aircraft have near miss on recent wildfire

COLLEGE STATION — On Friday, a helicopter delivering water to the 150-acre Barth Fire in Caldwell County almost collided with a drone that came within feet of the aircraft.

Drones are a serious safety hazard for both the aviation resources as well as the firefighters on the ground and can cause a serious or fatal accident if they collide with firefighting aircraft.

STAAR scores show continued struggles in math, reading

Texas public student scores in standardized testing continue to improve since the pandemic, but more than half of those taking the test still struggle with math and just under half read below grade-level, the Texas Tribune reported.
