BRYAN—Hallettsville running back Jonathon Brooks and Canadian linebacker Ethan Jackson are the players of the year on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State football team.

After waiting out last week’s unbearable cold and icy weather, Canadian’s Lady Cat softball team finally got their 2021 campaign started on Tuesday afternoon, nabbing a season-opening extra-inning win at Booker, 7-5.

It was a bitter end to an ever-improving season for the Canadian Wildcat basketball team. The Cats showed tremendous grit in their Class 3A bi-district contest in Panhandle last Friday, but fell short against Abernathy in a 47-42 final.

The Canadian Lady Cats gave Shallowater everything they wanted and then some, but in the end, it was obvious the Fillies are the No. 1-ranked team in Class 3A for a reason.

Canadian’s Lady Cat softball team is chomping at the bit to get back on the diamond these days. Softball was one of many UIL spring sports that saw their year come to a screeching halt on March 13 last year, canceled due to the dangerous coronavirus pandemic.

Following a strong finish to their regular season, with back-to-back wins over Dalhart and Highland Park, the Canadian Wildcats now turn their attention to the UIL Class 3A playoffs. The Wildcats (7-6 overall) claimed the No.

It has been a trying seven days for Canadian’s Lady Cats—ever since beating Abernathy 53-23 in a Class 3A bi-district contest at Randall High School last Thursday. Since that win, the No.
