Gary Lee Maupin was born on February 25, 1946, in San Francisco, California, to Ray Elmer Maupin and Ella Mae Seavey Maupin. Gary passed away on August 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of a family whose lives were forever shaped by his presence.

He grew up in Garden City, Kansas, as one of four children alongside his sisters, Mary Gribble and JoAnn Billings, and his brother, Steve Maupin.

Gary loved to have fun, but even more than that, he loved creating experiences and memories for his family. He wanted his children to experience life, whether that meant snow skiing in the mountains, fishing and camping, or spending long summer days at the lake boating and riding jet skis. Some of Gary's favorite times were fishing trips with his friends and his kids, where the stories and laughter were often just as important as what they caught.

Gary also had a passion for classic cars and enjoyed restoring them, bringing old cars back to life with the same enthusiasm he brought to many of his hobbies.

Anyone who knew Gary knew that he loved to tell a good story, and his favorite subjects were usually his children and grandchildren. He was never shy about bragging on his kids, but his grandchildren held an especially proud place in his heart. As they grew older and became involved in sports, Gary became one of their biggest fans. He traveled all over the state to watch them compete, rarely letting distance get in the way of being there to support them.

More than any hobby or pastime, Gary loved sharing life with the people he loved. The fishing trips, ski trips, weekends at the lake, restored cars, sporting events, and countless stories became the memories his family will carry with them. For Gary, the best experiences were always the ones that could be shared with family and friends.

Gary spent more than 40 years building a career in the oil and gas industry. Over the years, his work took him through many different sides of the business, from owning and operating his own oilfield services company to working in sales for Weatherford. Gary understood that the oilfield was as much about people and relationships as it was about the work itself. Throughout his long career, he built countless friendships with customers, coworkers, and others across the industry. Many of those business relationships grew into lasting friendships that Gary valued long after the work was done.

Betty, his loving wife of nine years, remained faithfully by his side through the end. She loved and cared for his grandchildren as her own and devoted herself to caring for him during his final days, surrounding him with love, comfort, and companionship.

Gary is survived by his wife, Betty Maupin; his three children, Angela Gower and her husband Jack, April Cook and her husband Ryan, and Derek Maupin and his wife Makesha; and his six grandchildren, Lily Gower, Salym Mitchell and her husband Tate, Kennedi Cook, Camden Cook, Cayson Maupin, and Paislee Maupin; and by the mother of his children, Marie Maupin. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Jennifer Werenskjold and her husband Ryan, Scott Nickerson, Steven Nickerson, Jamie "Skeet" Moon and her husband Robert, Heath Allen and his wife Samantha, Brandi Wright, Landon Allen and his wife Darla, and Laramie and his wife Candi, along with their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Elmer and Ella Mae Maupin; late wife Kathy; his sister Mary Gribble; his brother Steve Maupin; and his sister JoAnn Billings.

Gary's life cannot be measured simply by dates or milestones, but by the family he helped build and the generations that follow him. He leaves behind children and grandchildren who will carry his stories, memories, humor, lessons, and family traditions with them for years to come.

A private graveside service for Gary's family will be held at Shamrock Cemetery. Following the graveside service, the family warmly invites friends and family to join them at 11 am on Saturday, September 5 at First Baptist Church in Shamrock for a celebration of life—a time to fellowship, share stories and memories, and celebrate Gary's life together.

Gary will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
