The wildfires that had terrorized area residents for the last two days were still burning late Wednesday evening, as weary firefighters responded to the seemingly unending reports of flare-ups and outbreaks—most in the southern third of Hemphill County.

Canadian’s Wildcat and Lady Cat varsity tennis players cleaned up at Tuesday’s district tennis tournament at Pampa, claiming both the boys and girls team championships by decisive margins. The varsity girls-doubles teams picked up both the silver and gold medals.

The Canadian High School Theatre Arts Department’s one-act play production of The Sweet Science of Bruising advanced again last Thursday and will perform in the area round of competition this Saturday, April 2, in Seminole.

The Canadian Record was presented the General Excellence Award during the 2021 Better Newspaper Contest last weekend, at the culmination of the Panhandle Press Association’s 112th Annual Convention, held in Hereford.
