Six Lady Cat softball players were recently honored as members of the 2022 1-3A Softball All-District team. Freshman infielder Lilly Bradford was the sole Lady Cat named to the first team. Second-team selections included three CHS juniors—pitcher Leah Moreno, and infielders Haeleigh Thompson and Jaime Salazar—as well as two freshmen, catcher Kenzie Flowers and outfielder Carlie Renfro. Bushland senior Jillian Howell was named MVP. River Road’s Carolyn Kovall, a freshman, was named Newcomer of the Year. Her teammate, freshman Ava Sharp, shared the honor of Co-Offensive Player of the Year with Bushland sophomore Abby Howell. Press Pass Sports founder Kale Steed—a Canadian native who also serves as a sportswriter for The Canadian Record—was honored last weekend as Texas Girls Coaches Association Sportswriter of the Year, Division I, during the 2022 Honor Awards Banquet, held Monday, July 11, in Arlington.

MANHATTAN, KS—More than 4,120 Kansas State University students earned semester honors for their academic performance in the spring 2022 semester— among them, Canadian High School alumna Kyndall Hill. Students earning a grade-point average for the semester of 3.75 or above on at least 12 graded credit hours receive semester honors along with commendations from their deans. The honors are also recorded on their permanent academic records. Hill is the daughter of Wallace and Rhealene Hill, of Canadian.

The 2022 high school and middle school football seasons are fast approaching, and now is the time to apply to become a Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) football official. Individuals, including men and women from across the Texas Panhandle, interested in officiating are encouraged to apply and begin the education and other requirements to officiate. New Amarillo Chapter officials will have the opportunity to officiate games across the Texas Panhandle starting this season after completing organized preseason training. It is a great way to be on the field, get exercise, learn officiating techniques, and work with other officials and outstanding youth in our region.
