My friend Becky called to see if I wanted some rhubarb that she was ready to harvest. The answer was an enthusiastic YES. Well, she shows up with a laundry basket filled! I shared with others and froze some. You wash and cut to desired lengths, then flash freeze on a cookie sheet before putting the rhubarb into freezer bags. This keeps them from sticking together. I made this delicious crisp recipe using more rhubarb and vanilla than the recipe called for—2 cups of rhubarb and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Served with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!

WHEN I JOINED THE MUSEUM in January of this year, one of the warnings passed along to me was “Don’t turn on the train! Just don’t touch it. We don’t know exactly what all is wrong, but it doesn’t work right, and might fall off the track.”

Hemphill County 4-H students Ashley Perry and Tucker Landry recently went to Texas 4-H Roundup, which is a state competition, before leaving for a four-day trip to Costa Rica with the GLOBE (Global Leadership Opportunities Beyond Education) organization. The pair were introduced to Rotarians by Ashley’s mother, Christa Perry.

Looming in the background of the budget talks being conducted by each of Hemphill County’s taxing entities this month is a lawsuit against the Hemphill County Appraisal District, filed by Midcoast Pipelines, arguing that its property in this county was appraised in excess of its market value in 2019 and 2020.
