A preview of the Region 1-3A track-and-field meet

Canadian will carry an impressive 15 athletes to compete at the UIL Region I-3A track-and-field meet set for Friday and Saturday at Abilene Christian University. The Wildcats qualified two relays and two individuals, for a total of nine athletes, to try and punch their ticket to state, while the Lady Cats advanced a relay and four individuals to compete.

Thursday Night Scrambles

Last week’s Thursday Night Scrambles ended with an 8-under-par, compiled by the winning team of Drew Daniel, Chris Conner, Wes Hathaway, Brady Waite, Brian Gallagher, Robert Cantu, and Rachael Bartlett. Brady Waite and Martha Cooper won the men’s and ladies’ long-drive competition, while Brandon Stroebel shot closest to the pin on No. 11, and Chris Conner’s shot landed closest to the pin on No. 17. Bryant makes two birdies in first regional tourney

Canadian High School’s Ben Bryant gave it a nice run at the Region 1-3A Boys Golf Tournament at the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird on Monday and Tuesday, but came up short of qualifying for state. Bryant, playing as an individual, was still in contention after Monday’s opening round, shooting an 81.

CHS track team sends 10 to Region 1-3A meet

Photos by John Moore The Canadian boys and girls teams both placed in the top five at the District 1-3A/2-3A Area track-and-field meet at Lubbock-Cooper on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats came in third place, totaling 78 points, while advancing a total of five individuals and two relay squads to the Region I-3A meet set for next Friday and Saturday in Abilene.

CHS golfers head to Regionals Monday

A pair of Canadian golfers will try and make their mark at the upcoming Region 1-3A Golf Tournament set for the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird starting Monday. Junior Briley Merket and sophomore Ben Bryant each punched tickets to Regional by qualifying as individuals at last month’s District 1-3A Golf Tournament.

Thursday Night Scrambles tee off at Canadian Golf Course

A score of 7-under-par won the first Thursday scrambles of the season last week. Members of the winning team were Shawn Davis, Wes Hathaway, Derek Cooper, Brent Clapp, Juan Guillen, and Martha Cooper. Gary Prater and Rachael Bartlett claimed bragging rights for the top men’s and ladies’ long drives. Levi Huntress made closest-to-the-pin on No. 2, and Shawn Davis was closest-to-the-pin on No. 8.
