VACCINE PARTIES are all the rage here! I’ve been invited to four such gatherings of people who are fully vaccinated. Following CDC guidelines, 10 people who have been vaccinated can get together inside without masks. Even the Methodist church in town hosted a vaccine party. I’ve been to two gatherings so far and have two more to go. Of course the parties are fun after a year in isolation. But the emotional impact of human interaction is extraordinary. Everyone is in a celebratory mood. So far there is no shaking hands, hugging, or contact of any kind. People are still keeping their distance. The emphasis is on conversation. Here’s what people are talking about . . .

CHS One-Act Play to perform at Bi-District UIL contest March 25

Canadian High School’s One Act Play production of Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play, has advanced to the Bi-District round of competition, which will be held at Tulia ISD next Thursday, March 25. The first of six play performances will begin at 12:30 pm that day, and each play will run on the hour, beginning with Tulia and followed by Dalhart, Shallowater, River Road, Canadian and Idalou. The CHS performance will begin at 4:30 pm. According to the latest COVID protocols, audiences will be allowed at half capacity, and must wear masks and observe social distancing. When half capacity is reached, the doors will be closed. Masks will be required in hallways, restrooms and the auditorium at all times. Awards will be presented following the last play.

Sweepstakes No. 41

The Canadian High School Wildcat Band earned its 41st sweepstakes on Tuesday, March 9. The band competed in the Region 1 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest held at Panhandle High School, receiving straight 1s in concert and sight-reading. The band is led by co-directors Daisy and James Edwards.

This group of Clover Kids recently learned new skills from a sewing project program presented by Elsie Messener, and converted their knowledge into this lap quilt, which was presented to residents of Mesa View Senior Living. The goal of Clover Kids is to introduce younger students, grades K-2, to the 4-H program.

The University of Wyoming lists three Texas students on the 2020 fall semester Provost’s Honor Roll, among them Emma Waters of Canadian. The Provost’s Honor Roll consists of undergraduates who have completed at least six but fewer than 12 hours with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average for the semester. Emma is the daughter of Colby and Erin Waters of Canadian.
